I used to have the common winamp problem with the mmsystem002 message appearing and no sound. I learnt I should change to preferences to Nullsoft Directsound plug-in v2.0. Though now I got a could not create direct soyund object message and still no sound. What am I supposed to do ?

Try this
Winamp Options-> Preferences-> Output -> DirectSound -> Configure
Change the Output Device from the drop down menu to one that best describes your soundcard.
