Hallo, wie kann ich den Active Desktop unter WinNT 4.0 installieren und einrichten? Habe einige PCs mit WinNT 4.0 vorinstalliert bekommen und dort war der Active Desktop installiert. Doch jetzt muß ich einen PC neu installieren, da das System total instabil ist, und ich weiß nicht, wie ich den Active Desktop installiere - noch wo ich den her bekomme. Wäre super wenn mir jemand einen Tip geben könnte. Gruß Gamila

The information in this article applies to:

What is the Windows Desktop Update?

The Windows Desktop Update component included with Internet Explorer 4.0, 4.01, 4.01 Service Pack 1, 4.01 Service Pack 2, and Microsoft Windows 98 includes the following major enhancements to the classic Windows shell:

1. The Active Desktop
2. A single, customizable Explorer with Web View
3. A Web-integrated Start menu and taskbar
4. A Quick Launch section on the task menu

If you installed Internet Explorer 5, 5.5, or 6 on a PC that never had IE 4, you don't get the Windows Desktop Update. This is also the case if you installed IE 4 and chose not to install the Desktop Update.

The Desktop Update cannot be directly installed with IE 5, 5.5 or 6 using the Microsoft installation program. Microsoft recommends uninstalling the current version of IE, installing IE 4 SP2 with the Desktop Update and then installing the desired version of IE (5, 5.5, or 6). Alternate Desktop Update Installation

You can install the Desktop Update using the following alternative method. This method requires you have access to the IE 5, 5.5, or 6 setup directory.

1. If you installed your current version of IE using the MS online installer, you need to re-download the setup files. Do this from the Microsoft Windows Update web site by starting the IE setup and selecting the Install Minimal, or Customize your Browser Options. On the next screen, click the Advanced button and select the Download Only option. This downloads files from the Microsoft site and saves them on your computer. It does not perform the installation. Files are normally saved in the Windows Update Setup Files directory on your computer.
   
   
2. Open a Command Window / DOS Prompt and change to the Windows Update Setup Files directory
   
   
3. If you are installing to Windows NT 4.0 from IE 5 or 5.5 run the following command:

   IE5Setup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:Y"

   
   
4. If you are installing to Windows NT from IE 6 run the following command:

   IE6Setup.exe /C:"ie6wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:Y"

   
   
5. If you are installing to Windows 95 from IE 5 or 5.5 run the following command:

   IE5Setup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_95x86 /I:Y"

   
   
6. If you are installing to Windows 95 from IE 6 run the following command:

   IE6Setup.exe /C:"ie6wzd /e:IE4Shell_95x86 /I:Y"
