SUSE Installation auf SONY VAIO Notebook
Frage
Hi,
Also schon jetzt 1000 Dank für Deine Hilfe.
Gruß,
Torsten

/usr/sbin/alsaconf generates the following entry in the /etc/modules.conf :

options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0660 snd_device_gid=17 snd_device_uid=0
post-install snd alsactl restore
Sound is supposed to work with OSS. The chip is detected by OSS automatically, but it did not work. The only sound i got was a long beeping and the system locked up.

APM
The following APM Kernel configuration works partially :
[*] Enable APM at boot time
[*] Do CPU IDLE calls
[*] Enable console blanking using APM
[*] Power off on shutdown
[*] Ignore multiple suspend/standby events
[*] Ignore multiple suspend/resume cycles
[*] RTC stores time in GMT
[*] Allow interrupts during APM BIOS calls
apm -s : suspends to memory
apm -S : does nothing
Suspend to memory via the function keys works.
Suspend to disk via function keys works, with one limitation. After a fresh reboot, it takes about 15 - 30 seconds before the suspending starts. During this time the notebook seems to hang. The next time suspend to disk will work properly.
Lid closure does not evoke a suspension event.

Annotations
Booting :
it is possible to boot the Kernel from the USB Floppy Driver, but this is really slow. Loading and uncompressing the kernel takes about 10 minutes.
in order to use the CD-ROM Drive you need the following append line : ide2=0x180,0x386
The cardmanager will hang and PCMCIA will not work porperly, if at all, when the USB Floppy drive is connected to the notebook.
USB Floppy works with SuSE Linux 7.0. Just run the following commands :
rcusb start
modprobe usb-storage
mount /dev/sda /mnt
After that you can acces the floppy drive under /mnt
The system will freeze, when using the function keys to change the brightness/sound volume (Thanks to M. Hissmann).
