Was heißt 2.1 kompatibel?

Ich habe jetzt bei einer Soundkarte für ein Notebook 2.1 kompatibel gelesen. Was heißt das genau? Normalerweise habe ich ja einen MIC, Line In und Speaker anschluß. Heißt das jetzt das ich via Software z.B einen 2. Speaker Anschluß (Für die rear Speaker) auf den MIC oder Line in Anschluß legen kann oder was heißt das sonst 2.1 kompatibel?

Vermutlich CreativLabs 2.1-kompatibel so ähnlich wie Soundblaster-kompatibel...
